Texas Tycoons News Release

Fort Worth, TX. In a thrilling victory and heartbreaking defeat, the Texas Tycoons beat the Arkansas RimRockers in one of the great games of the ABA season. Fresh from a victory in Kansas City, the RimRockers went into Texas with only two defeats on the season - only to lose their third game 102-97. The RimRockers trailed the Tycoons for most of the game, but a victory seemed possible in the final minute of the game when Scotty Thurman converted a 3-D possession to put the RimRockers up by one point with the score of 98-97. However, the RimRockers were unable to maintain their lead and watched the Tycoons make a last minute scoring driving pulling ahead to finish the game with the five point victory.

The RimRockers, led in scoring by Scotty Thurman (24 points), actually outscored the Tycoons in the first (28-25) and third quarters (77-76), but ultimately were unable to stop the Tycoons. The Tycoons controlled the ball, as well as the pace of the game, by pulling down 50 total rebounds and allowing only 10 turnovers. The RimRockers rebounded weakly, only getting 31 rebounds and threw the ball away 16 time.

Shawnson Johnson and Brian Jackson did a nice job of holding Oliver Miller inside, only allowing him to score 12 points. Johnson and Jackson each scored 10 and 12 points respectively, while Kareem Reid added 19 and George Gervin had 13. Although it was a disappointing loss for the RimRockers, they will take a few days off to reflect on their strategy and be ready to take on the Mississippi Stingers Thursday in Greenville, Mississippi. The Tycoons, on the other hand, will savor the victory - as it shows another powerhouse in the division. For more information on either team, visit www.abalive.com.
