New Jersey SkyCats News Release
Mahwah, NJâMarch 8, 2005âNew Jersey SkyCats forward David Vega has just signed a contract to play in Venezuela. Vega is the sixth member to emerge from the SkyCats organization to continue his career in professional sports.
Vega is the fifth SkyCat player to sign a professional contract with an overseas team. Mike Matthews, Shaheen Holloway, Edmund Saunders and Cheyne Gadson have all received contracts with international teams this season as a result of being affiliated with the SkyCats. Front office member Jeffery Atkins has also emerged from the team to continue his career in the field of professional sports.
SkyCats head coach and owner Ron Eford states "My goal as an owner is to get all of my players opportunities to play overseas or in the NBA. At the same time I am trying to win as many games as possible as a coach. Although we lost five key players this season we still accomplished that. We had a winning record and made the playoffs."
The SkyCats finished the regular season at 12-8 making the playoffs. The team is now preparing for next season and would like to thank all of the fans who helped make the SkyCats inaugural season a success.
