Carolina Mudcats News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Carolina Mudcats shut out the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 6-0 thanks to a great start from Francisco Jimenez in front of 2,071 on Tuesday night at TicketReturn.com Field.
The win improves Carolina to 16-14 on the year, while Myrtle Beach drops to 15-15.
Jimenez (3-1) held the Pelicans off the board for six innings before giving way to the bullpen. The Dominican native scattered three hits, and struck out six without allowing a walk.
Wilmer Font (0-3) got the start for Myrtle Beach, and controlled the Mudcats' offense early as he tossed four perfect frames.
Carolina finally broke through against Font when Jesus Aguilar led off the fifth with a walk. Jeremie Tice doubled him home with a ground ball just fair inside of third. Tice finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in his return to the lineup after missing nearly a week-and-a-half with a bad right hamstring.
A double by Justin Toole scored Tice to put the Mudcats up 2-0. Carlos Moncrief powered a two-run shot over the left field fence to put the Mudcats further ahead in the sixth, 4-0.
Run-scoring singles by Tice and Delvi Cid in the ninth inning polished off the scoring.
Aguilar doubled on a line drive to the right field corner in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to nine games.
J.D. Reichenbach and Trey Haley combined to pitch the last two innings for Carolina. The Carolina Mudcats continue their three game series at Myrtle Beach on Wesnesday, May 9, at 7:05. The team returns home to face the Potomac Nationals for three starting May 11.Tickets are available through the box office by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
