Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino fell to the Lancaster JetHawks at San Manuel Stadium 9-1 on Wednesday. Brendon Sanger had two hits including the 66ers (55-55, 22-18) lone extra-base hit with as well as a walk in his 2018 Inland Empire debut but the Sixers' pitching corps allowed a season matching high in hits allowed (15) as the JetHawks (57-53, 24-16) got a dominant start from Brandon Gold (9-6) to even the series at 1-1.
Lancaster got two runs in the first against 66ers starter Luis Madero (2-1) when Brett Boswell drilled a two-run homer, his first. The Sixers answered with two outs in the bottom of the first against Gold when Sanger ripped his double to right and David MacKinnon followed with a RBI single making it 2-1; MacKinnon joined Sanger as the only Sixers with multi-hit games. Manny Melendez finished with two doubles and a triple joining Tyler Nevin with three-hit games for Lancaster while Colton Welker knocked home three runs for the Rockies' affiliate. Welker and Wes Rogers each extended their hitting streaks to 16-games for Lancaster. Kida De La Cruz was a bright spot on the mound for the Sixers as he entered the game with one on in the fifth and got a double-play ball to end the innings. He then struck out the side in order in the sixth as he pitched 1.2 innings but only faced four batters.
