
Bats Come Alive To Support Gold

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The JetHawks bats came alive to help starter Brandon Gold to his league-leading ninth win in a 9-1 defeat of the Inland Empire 66ers on Wednesday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Gold (9-6) delivered seven strong innings, allowing only one run on six hits. He struck out a season-high eight batters and issued only one walk.
The JetHawks (24-16, 57-53) scored early on a two-run shot by newcomer Bret Boswell in the first inning. The home run was his first with Lancaster and he added a RBI-single in the third inning to make the score, 3-1.
Lancaster pulled away in the later innings with four runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth. The JetHawks sent nine batters to the plate in the seventh inning. Colton Welker and Wes Rogers each delivered two-run singles in the frame. They both extended their current hitting streaks to 16 games, marking a new team season-best.
Manny Melendez tripled in the eight to drive home a run. He also doubled twice in the game. Welker drove him home with a base-hit two batters later. Welker leads the team with 66 RBI on the season.
Tyler Nevin added three hits in the game, while Carlos Herrera recorded two.
Robert Tyler and Bryan Baker each threw scoreless innings of relief to finish the win. Inland Empire starter Luis Madero (2-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings.
The series concludes with a rubber game on Thursday in San Bernardino. Ty Culbreth (5-5) starts for the JetHawka against Matt Ball (3-1). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
