Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, ND - After setting the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks single-season home run record in 2010, Jesse Hoorelbeke is coming back for an encore. The RedHawks have re-signed the veteran first baseman for 2011, the club announced today.

Hoorelbeke, 33, batted .273 with 22 doubles, 29 home runs, 75 RBI and 61 runs scored in 96 games in 2010, as he helped lead the RedHawks to a second consecutive Northern League championship. Hoorelbeke's home run total was second in the league and he also was among the league-leaders in extra base hits (51-2nd), slugging percentage (.573-4th) and RBI (75-6th).

Following the season, Hoorelbeke was named to the Northern League All-Star Team as the league's top first baseman. He was also selected to play in the 2010 Northern League vs. Golden Baseball League All-Star Game in Tucson, AZ.

2010 was Hoorelbeke's second season with the RedHawks. He previously played with the club in 2006 until his contract was purchased by the Chicago Cubs organization in early August. That year, he was batting .332 with 24 doubles, one triple, 21 home runs, 65 RBI and 55 runs scored in 74 games before departing for Triple-A Iowa.

Hoorelbeke will look to surpass former DH Darryl Motley's career record of 64 home runs with the RedHawks in 2011. Hoorelbeke has 50 home runs with the RedHawks in two seasons.

Hoorelbeke began his professional career in 2002 after signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization as a non-drafted free agent after finishing his college career at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. In nine seasons, Hoorelbeke has batted .281 with 183 doubles, four triples, 208 home runs, 677 RBI and 559 runs scored in 920 games. In addition, he is just 57 hits away from 1,000 in his career.

"Jesse is one of the most-feared power hitters in minor league baseball," said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. "He's a leader on and off the field, and we are happy we were able to bring him back in 2011."
