Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, La. - It's not quite Disneyland, but after guiding the Shreveport-Bossier Captains to the 2010 American Association championship, Ricky VanAsselberg is spending the next five weeks in sunny Palm Springs, Calif., acting as instructor in the California Winter League's second season.
VanAsselberg will work with nine other instructors who will guide the young players through the 18-game season that lasts from January 22 to the championship game on February 19.
The other instructors include two other American Association skippers, John Harris of the Amarillo Sox and Stan Cliburn of the Sioux City Explorers.
"I'm excited to be a part of the California Winter League representing the Captains and the American Association," VanAsselberg said. "It's great to get a chance to help these players get better and I hope I'll be able to find some talent to play for me again this summer."
VanAsselberg concluded his second season with the Captains with their sweep of Sioux Falls in the 2010 American Association Championship series after leading them to within two wins of the playoffs in 2009.
The 2010 American Association Champion Shreveport-Bossier Captains thank all of the people who made the 2010 regular season such a success.
