Jerry Smith Re-Signs with Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Springfield Armor today announced that guard Jerry Smith has signed an NBA Development League contract and will report to training camp with the Armor on November 13.
Smith appeared in 46 games as a rookie, starting six, during the 2010-11 season, averaging 12.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Smith scored in double figures 27 times, including 11 games of 20 or more points. Smith had four consecutive games of 20 or more points from January 18-28 and scored a season-high 33 points on March 17.
"I'm excited that Jerry has re-signed with us," said Armor Head Coach Bob MacKinnon. "Jerry is a versatile guard who can really defend and he will fit in well in our system."
After the conclusion of the Armor's season, Smith joined the Waikato Pistons of the New Zealand National Basketball League (NBL), averaging 18.2 points per game and leading the Pistons to the NBL semifinals.
Smith, a native of Wauwatosa, Wis., was the Armor's fifth round pick (69th overall) in the 2010 NBA D-League Draft. Prior to joining the Armor, Smith played four years at the University of Louisville under Head Coach Rick Pitino.
The Armor will hold their annual NBA D-League Draft party on Thursday, November 3 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the MVP Pub in the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Springfield. Armor and New Jersey Nets' front office staff members will be on hand to make selections live via teleconference.
The Armor will open the 2011-12 season on Friday, November 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the MassMutual Center against the Maine Red Claws.
