
Jeff Hamilton Joins Team USA

BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced Jeff Hamilton has joined the United States National Team at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships in the Czech Republic. The announcement was made by US National Team General Manager Larry Pleau of the NHL's St. Louis Blues, Assistant General Manager Don Waddell of the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers, Senior Director of International Administration Art Berglund, Senior Director of Hockey Operations Jim Johannson and USA Hockey Vice President & International Council Chairperson Tony Rossi. Team USA is currently 1-1-1 and has advanced to the Qualification Round and will play Russia tomorrow, Sweden this Sunday and Denmark this coming Tuesday.
Despite missing 13 games with a serious eye injury, Hamilton led all AHL scorers and set a Sound Tigers' single-season record with 43 goals, including an all-time League record 15 game-winners, this season. The Englewood, Ohio native also set the all-time franchise record with his 65th career goal as a Sound Tiger this year. Hamilton was a first-team AHL All-Star, won the first-ever Willie Marshall Award as the League's leading goal scorer, played for PlanetUSA at the AHL All-Star Classic in Grand Rapids, Michigan in February, made his NHL debut with the Islanders on December 2nd and was the AHL Sher-Wood Player of the Week for the week ending November 30th this season. He finished the regular season with 43 goals and 25 assists for a team-leading 68 points in 67 games. Hamilton also led the Sound Tigers with a +16, 20 power-play goals, 13 first goals and a franchise-record 295 shots on goal.
Hamilton first signed as free agent with the Islanders in August of 2002 after playing one season with Karpat in Finland. He played the previous five seasons, 1996-2001, at Yale University, missing most of the 1999-2000 campaign with an abdominal injury. Hamilton completed his collegiate career as Yale's all-time leading scorer with 80 goals, 94 assists and 174 points in 127 games and was a three-time All-Ivy League selection and a first-team East All-American.
