Derran Watts To Join B-Mets

The New York Mets have announced that Binghamton Mets outfielder Jeff Duncan is being promoted to Triple-A Norfolk with outfielder Derran Watts being called up from Low-A Hagerstown to take his spot on the B-Mets' roster.

Duncan will see action with Norfolk for the third straight year. The Frankfort, IL native did not play in Binghamton's 10-2 loss at Harrisburg tonight and departs with a .244 average, five home runs, 25 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 85 games with the B-Mets this season. The 26-year-old saw action with the B-Mets, Norfolk and the New York Mets in 2003 and 2004. The sixth-year pro has spent his entire career in the Mets' organization after they made him their seventh round pick in the 2000 draft out of Arizona State University. He's expected to be in uniform when Norfolk plays at Indianapolis Thursday night.

The 25-year-old Watts will be playing at the Double-A level for the first time in his career after hitting .285 with four home runs, 40 RBI and six stolen bases in 65 games with Hagerstown this season. The Brampton, Ontario native has stolen 18 or more bases in three of his five professional seasons, all of which have been spent in the Mets' chain. Watts, drafted by the Mets in the 12th round in 2001 out of the University of British Columbia, hit .254 with 21 steals in 80 games between Low-A Capital City and SS-A Brooklyn in 2004. He is expected to join the B-Mets in time for their game at Harrisburg Thursday afternoon.

After wrapping up a four-game series at Harrisburg Thursday, the B-Mets return to NYSEG Stadium for a nine-game homestand against the Portland Sea Dogs and Norwich Navigators. The B-Mets will play doubleheaders against Portland Friday and Saturday with each starting at 5:30. The series with the Sea Dogs concludes with a day game Sunday beginning at 1:30.
