Jays Can't Catch Zehner and Yanks in Game Two

April 27, 2016 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Dunedin Blue Jays News Release

DUNEDIN, FL - With six runs in the first two innings, the league's best offense in the Tampa Yankees (13-7) got out of the gate early with a 6-1 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays (11-9) on Wednesday night. LF Zack Zehner collected three hits for the second consecutive night for the Yanks.

Tampa's early run support for RHP Brody Koerner (W, 1-0) was enough to secure a series win in the first two games of a three game set. Koerner was terrific in his Florida State League debut, allowing just four hits without a run over six innings of work while striking out four.

Tampa put up two runs in the top of the first off RHP Kyle Westwood (L, 0-2). The first run came by way of the first of three Blue Jays' errors in the game followed by an 2B Abiatal Avelino ground out that plated one more. In the second inning, Tampa used four hits, including a CF Mark Payton two-run triple to extend their lead to six.

After the Yankees' early scoring outburst, Westwood settled down to the tune of three scoreless innings. LHP Alonzo Gonzalez, RHP Adonys Cardona and LHP Matt Dermody each contributed scoreless outings of their own. The Jays' lone run came on a DH David Harris double play in the sixth with the bases loaded.

The Yankees go for the series sweep on Thursday night with first pitch at 6:30 pm ET. Top prospect RHP Conner Greene throws for Dunedin against Tampa's RHP Vicente Conde.
