Threshers Pound 12-Run Inning, Win 14-2

The Clearwater Threshers exploded for 12 runs on 11 hits in the sixth inning alone, as Clearwater bounded past the Daytona Tortugas by a 14-2 final on Wednesday morning at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
It was an inning which opened with seven consecutive hits, included six extra-base knocks, and saw the Threshers send 16 men to the plate before all was said and done.
The Threshers (14-6) entered the frame carrying a 1-0 advantage, after Kyle Martin's RBI single in the first extended his on-base streak to 13 consecutive games and gave Clearwater the early advantage.
The floodgates burst open in the sixth.
Scott Kingery led off by lifting a home run out to left field, his first dinger of the season. Cord Sandberg followed with a single to right, and Carlos Tocci knocked one of his own to center.
Martin stepped in and lined an opposite-field double to plate Sandberg, and Mitch Walding's two-bagger to left brought home two more to make it 5-0. Drew Stankiewicz connected for Clearwater's third-straight double to score Walding with the Threshers' sixth run.
After reliever Scott Brattvet replaced Daytona starting pitcher Tejay Antone (1-2), Malquin Canelo welcomed him with an infield single. A wild pitch scored Stankiewicz, and Gabriel Lino drew a walk. Brattvet got Derek Campbell - the ninth man to bat in the inning - to fly out to right for the first out, but the Threshers were not quite done.
Kingery drew a free pass to load the bases, and Sandberg lifted a double to center to bring in Canelo and Lino. That made it 9-0, and Alex Powers entered as Daytona's third hurler of the inning. The Threshers continued to pour it on as Tocci lined a two-run single to right, and Martin pulled a base knock to right as well.
Powers got Walding to ground out, but Stankiewicz put an exclamation point on the inning with a two-run triple to right, capping the 12-run outburst with the Threshers up 13-0.
Matt Imhof (2-1) turned in his second-straight strong outing against the Tortugas (7-13), allowing just a run on four hits in six innings. He tied a season-high with five walks, but also matched a career-best with seven strikeouts.
Walding belted his sixth home run of the season in the ninth inning, tying Lakeland's Christin Stewart for the Florida State League lead. Walding - who finished 2-for-5 with three RBI - is already just one home run short of a career-high.
Stankiewicz matched a career-high with three runs batted in, while Sandberg, Tocci, and Martin each knocked in two.
Clearwater will battle Daytona in the rubber match on Thursday, as John Richy makes his season debut against Daytona's Jake Paulson. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
