Mississippi Braves News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - The Montgomery Biscuits evened the series at 2-2 on Friday night with a 3-1 win over the Mississippi Braves at Riverwalk Stadium after a 47-minute rain delay
Despite the soggy conditions, the M-Braves scored first again on Friday night, taking advantage of a Biscuits error. Trey Harris doubled against Jack Lobosky with two outs and scored on a throwing error by Miles Mastrobuoni.
Odalvi Javier (L, 4-2) made his 10th appearance and ninth start of the season on Friday night and earned his second-straight quality start. The 24-year-old right-hander retired the first seven batters of the game until allowing two hits in the third inning. Javier worked around those base runners and kept the Biscuits off the scoreboard until the sixth inning.
Former Rays first-round pick Garrett Whitley opened the bottom of the sixth inning with a bunt single, and Miles Mastrobuoni followed with a double down the left-field line. Javier bounced back and got a groundout and strikeout, not allowing the runs to score. The next batter, Cal Stevenson, on a 1-2 pitch, hit a ball over the padded wall in straightaway center for a three-run home run. Replay showed that the ball did not go over the yellow line above the padding, but the call stood for a go-ahead three-run homer and not a ground-rule double.
Javier settled for 6.0 innings of three-run ball, surrendering the three runs on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Kurt Hoekstra took over for Javier in the seventh and struck out the side. The Grand Rapids, MI native, pitched with traffic in the eighth inning but nailed down his fourth strikeout to finish 2.0 scoreless frames. Hoekstra has not allowed a run over his last seven appearances and 7.2 innings.
The Biscuits used four relievers in the game, and it was only Lobosky that would give up a run. Ivan Pelaez (W, 4-5), Joel Peguero, and the older brother of Atlanta Braves' left-hander Kyle Muller, Chris Muller (S, 1) combined to allow only one unearned run. Muller
With the series now split at 2-2, game five of the six-game set is on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP AJ Puckett (1-3, 2.10) makes the start for Mississippi, against RHP Easton McGee (0-0, 4.05) for the Biscuits. The first pitch is set for 6:05 pm with coverage on 103.9 WYAB, mississippibraves.com, and MiLB.tv.
The M-Braves return to Trustmark Park to begin the second half of the season, July 6-11, to face the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. For tickets, and information on upcoming promotions, visit mississippibraves.com, or call 888-BRAVES4.
