Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Jamestown Jammers will team up with the Jamestown Chapter of the Credit Union Association of New York and other area credit unions for a canned food drive to benefit St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Youth Organization in Dunkirk and the St. Susan Center in Jamestown for the second straight year.
"After last year's event was such a great success, we decided to do it again and help both parts of the county," Jamestown Jammer Sales & Operations Manager John Pogorzelski said. "The Jammers are Chautauqua County's team. So, we were glad that we could contribute to both the Northern and Southern parts of the county."
Last year, the Jammers and the local credit unions combined to collect 250 pounds of food to benefit the St. Susan Center, which provides hot, nutritious meals to those in need. The CYO also helps feed the hungry through its food closet program.
"Both the St. Susan Center and the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Youth Organization do so much for this community," Pogorzelski added. "The credit unions have been great to work with the past two seasons, and we're happy to help out in our own little way."
In 2011, the Jammers will again partner with Affinity One FCU, Cattaraugus County EFCU, CCSE FCU, Greater Chautauqua FCU, Inner Lakes FCU, Jamestown Area Community FCU, Jamestown Post Office ECU, Olean Area FCU, Olean Teachers and Postal FCU, Southern Chautauqua FCU, SUNY Fredonia FCU and Westfield Area FCU to collect food for both food banks.
The credit unions are currently accepting food donations at the local branch offices, and the food drive will culminate with Friday's game against the Batavia Muckdogs at 7:05 p.m.
At each of the credit union branches, there are free bleacher tickets available for Friday's contest. Fans need to bring their tickets to the park along with a canned food item for admission to the game.
The Jamestown Jammers are a short-season Class A affiliate of the Florida Marlins. The team is owned by Rich Products Corporation, which also owns two other minor league teams and a professional soccer team in England.
