
Jammers Sweep Two From Spikes

JAMESTOWN, NY-The Jamestown Jammers swept a doubleheader from the State College Spikes on Thursday at Russell Diethrick Park, winning game one, 4-2, in seven innings and game two, 3-2, in 11 innings thanks to a Kyle Jensen walk-off home run.
Jensen's solo shot off of Alan Knotts (3-3) broke the tie in the second game on the first pitch of the inning. Knotts had allowed just one hit in 3 1/3 innings to that point, but took the loss for State College (33-33)
The Spikes wer held without a hit until the fifth inning in game two, but came back from a 2-0 deficit to post runs in the fifth and sixth frames to tie the game. Elevys Gonzalez collected his first two hits as a Spike, including a hit that produced the fifth-inning run.
Jamestown (28-38) reliever Skyler Crawford (3-3) earned the win in the second game, going three scoreless innings to finish the game for the Jammers.
In game one, Spikes starter Nathan Baker, the Pirates' fifth-round choice in the 2009 draft, made his first pro start for the Spikes and went four scoreless innings to match Jamestown (28-38) starter Joe O'Gara (3-4). However, the Jammers plated four runs on the strength of three hits and two errors in the fifth inning to establish the only lead of the game.
Ty Summerlin went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the sixth inning to put the Spikes on the board. Mike Williams (2-2) took the loss for the Spikes after allowing four runs, two of them earned, on three hits in 2/3 of an inning.
O'Gara earned the victory for Jamestown with 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball, yielding four hits and two walks while striking out six.Ty Summerlin went 2-for-3 for Spikes.
Friday, the Spikes come back home for a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Williamsport Crosscutters to start the final three-game series of the 2009 regular season at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College will send right-hander Kyle McPherson (3-3) to the mound against an as yet unannounced Spikes starter.
