State College Spikes News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY -- The Jamestown Jammers scored four runs in the fifth inning to snap a scoreless tie and send the State College Spikes to a 4-2 defeat in the first of two seven-inning games at Russell Diethrick Park on Thursday.

State College (33-32) starter Nathan Baker, the Pirates' fifth-round choice in the 2009 draft, made his first pro start for the Spikes and went four scoreless innings to match Jamestown (26-39) starter Joe O'Gara (3-4). However, the Jammers plated four runs on the strength of three hits and two errors in the fifth inning to establish the only lead of the game.

Ty Summerlin went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the sixth inning to put the Spikes on the board. Mike Williams (2-2) took the loss for the Spikes after allowing four runs, two of them earned, on three hits in 2/3 of an inning.

O'Gara earned the victory for Jamestown with 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball, yielding four hits and two walks while striking out six.

A complete recap of the doubleheader will follow the second game.
