Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

FISHKILL, N.Y. (August 27, 2009) - The Hudson Valley Renegades (31-35) do not capitalize on a bases-loaded no-out situation and fall by the score of 3-2 to the Stedler Division leading Lowell Spinners (38-27).

The Spinners got on the board early with three runs in the first against Renegades starter Kevin Chavez (1-2, 4.88). Michael Almanzar doubled to left field with runners on first and second to give the Spinners a 2-0 lead. Almanzar would later score the third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to center field by William Holmes.

Spinners starter Alex Wilson (0-1, 3.55) faced the Renegades for the second time of the season and again dominated, allowing only one hit and striking out three. Wilson pitched only three innings on Thursday night and has not pitched over three innings in each of his past nine starts in order to limit his innings.

Hudson Valley took advantage of Lowell pitcher Tom Ebert, who relieved Wilson in the top of the fourth inning. Dustin Biell (.273, 9 SBs) singled through the right side of the infield and stole second with Tyler Bortnick at the plate to set the table for the Renegades. Biell was driven in for Hudson Valley's first run with a single to left by Eli Sonoqui (25 RBI).

The Renegades threatened again in the top of the fifth inning, loading the bases with no outs. Chris Murrill (.294, 25 SBs) was able to single in Elias Otero for a run, but the Renegades failed to take advantage of the situation, ending the inning with only one run scored.

Renegades reliever Hunter Hill (0-1, 7.02) pitched brilliantly, surrendering only one hit over four innings in relief of Chavez. Hill had been struggling with Hudson Valley having allowed multiple runs in four of his last eight appearances (12 ER in 10.2 IP).

The Renegades play the Spinners in the second game of the three-game series on Friday at Edward A. LeLacheur Park. The Renegades will start young Jason McEachern (1-3, 2.80) who pitched a complete game shutout in his last start against Staten Island.
