Jamestown Jammers News Release
BATAVIA, N.Y. - For the second night in a row the Jamestown Jammers jumped out to an early lead before holding on to win as they beat the Batavia Muckdogs, 7-4, at Dwyer Stadium Friday night.
The Jammers scored five runs in the second inning to race out to an early advantage then escaped a huge jam in the ninth inning to earn the victory. The win keeps Jamestown in a firstplace tie with Mahoning Valley atop the Pinckney Division at 20-15.
Nate Woods paced the Jamestown offense with four hits including two doubles, while Ryan Goetz hit his first professional homer and also singled.
Viosergy Rosa and Josh Adams each contributed a pair of singles.
For the second night in a row, a leadoff walk by Jobduan Morales triggered the big inning. Kentrell Dewitt then reached on a fielder's choice before Woods got his first hit. Rony Peralta singled in Dewitt and moved to second on the throw home.
Marquise Cooper then delivered a two-run single before Goetz smacked a two-run homer over the right field fence.
After Jamestown starter Matthew Neil was removed from the game, Batavia would get back in to the contest with three runs in the sixth. Jeremy Patton connected for a two-run shot of his own, and Virgil Hill scored after hitting a triple with two outs on a single by Jordan Rasmus to cut the deficit to one.
Jamestown would tack on much needed insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning. Terrence Dayleg was hit by a pitch and Morales worked another walk to put men on first and second. Woods advanced both runners with a ground out to third before Rosa plated them on a single to center.
However, Batavia would not go down without a fight, and the Muckdogs made things interesting in the ninth inning. Joey Bergman doubled in a run with two outs and Romulo Ruiz singled to bring the tying run to the plate against Alfredo Buret.
The next batter, David Medina, just missed a game-tying homer as he flew out to the warning track in right to end the game.
Neil earned his first professional win after throwing five shutout innings and striking out nine, while Patrick Daugherty took the loss after giving up 10 hits, walking four and allowing five runs in just 3.1 inning.
