Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Jamestown Jammers (5-2) extended their winning streak to

four games after rallying late to trim the State College Spikes, 2-1, in game one of the doubleheader at Diethrick Park Friday night.

A trio of Jamestown pitchers limited the Spikes to just four hits and one run in seven

innings. Chase Wier tossed two innings of scoreless relief to earn his second win of the season, while Alfredo Buret picked up his second save after striking out two in the final frame.

For the fifth consecutive game, the opponent struck first against the Jammers. State

College snapped a 19-inning scoreless streak when it pushed across a run in the top of the second. Justin Bencsko walked and stole second to get into scoring position then Kirk Singer plated him with a RBI single.

The Jammers would have runners in scoring position in the third and fourth, but State

College starter Ryan Hafner was able to keep Jamestown off the board.

It looked like the Spikes would extend the lead in the sixth inning after a pair of walks

and a fielding error loaded the bases with one out; however, Wier proceded to get Walker Gourley to strike out and Kirk Singer to ground out to escape the jam.

The Houdini act swung the momentum into Jamestown's favor as the team struck for two

runs in the bottom of the sixth. Rand Smith walked to start the frame then went to third on a single by Morales, who was pulled for pinch runner Marquise Cooper. Cooper promptly stole second to put runners at second and third with no outs.

Ryan McIntyre bounced one to first baseman Chris Lashmet to plate Jamestown's first

run and move Cooper to third. Pedro Mendoza proceded to hit a grounder to the hot corner, and Gourley tried to get Cooper going home. The throw was in the dirt to allow the go-ahead run to score.

Buret would come on and slam the door in the top of the seventh to seal Jamestown's

fourth consecutive victory.

Brent Keys and Jobduan Morales paced the Jamestown offense with two hits apiece with

Morales contributing a double.
