
James shuts down WhiteWings

San Angelo, TX -San Angelo Colts (21-16) starter Frank James Jr. (2-3) shut down the Harlingen WhiteWings (14-23), throwing five 1-2-3 innings, to win 7-2 tonight at Foster Field.
James ended up allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out four and walking one in his first complete game of the season.
The Colts jumped on Jorge Lugo (3-1) in the first as Tyrone Pendergrass led off with a single, stole second, moved to third when the throw went into center field, and scored on a single by John Anderson, who then stole second. Anderson moved to third on a Bryan Frichter ground out and scored on an Andres Rodriguez ground out to make it 2-0.
The WhiteWings tied it in the top of the second against James. Ryan Fox reached on an error and Argelis Nunez followed with an RBI-double. Two batters later, David Cardona hit an RBI-single to make it 2-2.
In the bottom of the frame, Jose Torres led off with a walk. Mendoza and Diggs singled to load the bases and Charlie Belew hit a sacrifice fly to give the Colts a 3-2 lead.
In the third, Frichter, Rodriguez and Jason Crosland led off with singles to load the bases. Torres reached on a fielder's choice to drive in a run and Mendoza followed with an RBI-ground out to give the Colts a 5-2 lead.
That was it until the seventh, when Torres hit a two-run home run with two outs to knock out Lugo.
The WhiteWings and Colts play game two of this three-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Angel Cordero (1-1) will face right-hander Brian Henschel (2-2).
