Aces pull out tough ballgame against Edinburg

Edinburg, Texas - June 20, 2008 - For the fourth game in a row, the Alexandria Aces played in a game decided in the ninth inning or later. Friday, the Aces beat the Edinburg Coyotes 7-5 in ten innings at Edinburg Baseball Stadium b scoring two in the top of the tenth. After trailing for most of the game the Aces scored three runs in the eighth to tie the game 5-5. Palmer Karr Jr. led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch. He scored on a double by Madison Edwards to bring the Aces within two. After a Jose Umbria flyout to right moved Edwards to third and Homy Ovalles struck out, Eddie Fitzpatrick doubled to center to score Edwards and put the tying run in scoring position. Bryan Sabatella drove home Fitzpatrick with a single to center to tie the game. In the tenth, Jose Umbria led off by singling to left. Tyler Farrar came in to pinch run. After pinch hitter Black Butler popped out Farrar stole second to put himself in scoring position. A groundout by Fitzpatrick moved Farrar to third. Sabatella then hit his second clutch hit of the ninth by singling home Farrar to give the Aces the lead. The Aces added one more in the tenth with an RBI double by Luis Guance. Wayne Hedden pitched a perfect tenth to earn his first save of the season. The Aces bullpen was magnificent as Juan Carlos Ovalles, Charlie Foster and Wayne Hedden combined for six innings, two hits, 11 strikeouts and no walks. The Aces dug themselves into a hole by committing six errors leading to three unearned runs. The Aces will continue their series with the Coyotes Saturday. Game time is 7:05.
