BAKERSFIELD, December 30, 2012 - In a night where Renaldo Major became the all-time leading scorer in NBA D-League history (3,812), Bakersfield outlasted the Vipers 106-104 in OT. Damion James led the way with a game-high 27 points to go along with 11 rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
James and reserve guard Shan Foster led the Jam in the first half as each had 14 points and helped the Jam enter intermission with a 55-48 lead. Despite poor shooting in the third period (31.6%), Bakersfield maintained the lead throughout the quarter and held a 73-69 advantage heading into the final period. The fourth quarter was a battle as both teams fought hard and showed tremendous effort at both ends of the court. Down 103-100 with 08.8 seconds left in the game, Jerel McNeal hit a clutch three-pointer to tie it and sent it to overtime. In overtime, James scored all three points and grabbed all five rebounds for the Jam but Renaldo Major came up huge with a spectacular play. With 06.0 seconds left in OT, Houston Rockets assignee Terrence Jones drove to the basket and out of nowhere Major showed up and blocked his shot as time expired to seal the victory and end the year 2012 with a win.
Shan Foster scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench for the Jam while Jerel McNeal posted 17 points and a game-high seven assists. Renaldo Major finished the night with eight points, four rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
The Vipers were paced by Houston Rockets assignee Terrence Jones who posted 24 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Vernon Macklin recorded a double-double off the bench with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Mike Singletary contributed 18 points and six rebounds.
Bakersfield opens the 2013 year at home against the Iowa Energy on Sunday, January 6.
