Bakersfield Jam News Release

BAKERSFIELD, March 5, 2014 - Toronto Raptors assignee Dwight Buycks had a game-high 28 points but it wasn't enough as the Bakersfield Jam (13-23) loss 109-106 to the Texas Legends (18-22) Wednesday night at the Dr. Pepper Arena.

A poor start to the game by the Jam caused them to fall behind by 10 points (26-16) after one quarter of play. In that first quarter, Bakersfield shot a measly 20 percent from the floor (4/20 FG's) and committed seven turnovers. Despite their poor shooting, the Jam jumped out to a quick 8-0 run to start the second period and closed the gap to 26-24 with 9:35 left in the quarter. However, Texas responded with a run of their own and finished the first half with a 52-43 advantage.

The Legends extended their lead to as many as 15 points in the second half and although Bakersfield fought back late in the game to come within one point (107-106), Texas was able to hold off for the victory.

Bakersfield held the edge in field goal shooting (46.0%-43.0%), rebounds (46-45), points in the paint (56-40) and second chance points (14-13), while Texas had more assists (24-20) and fast break points (34-22).

Terrel Harris had 22 points and four steals while Ike Diogu posted 13 points and a season-high 22 rebounds. Jerel McNeal added 15 points and a game-high nine assists.

The Legends were paced by Damion James (24 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks) and James Nunnally (20 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists). Ricky Ledo and P.J. Hairston each tallied 18 points.

The Jam will next travel to Austin for a match against the Toros tomorrow March 6. Tip-off is set at 5:30 p.m. PST.
