Jam Get Back on Winning Track

December 9, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Jacksonville Slam News Release

The Jacksonville JAM (7-2) regained their winning form last night with a 100-84 trouncing of the Atlanta Vision (1-4) at the UNF Arena last night. The JAM came out of the starting blocks strong on defense holding the visiting team to 19 percent shooting (8 of 43) in the first half. Anthony Lumpkin led the JAM with 28 points on 11-18 shooting from the field, DeRon Rutledge had 14 points, Donald Harris had 13 points and TheAnthony Haymon pulled in 14 rebounds. "We really put the emphasis on defensive pressure to start the game." stated JAM Head Coach Steve Tucker. "That helped us control the tempo of the game the rest of the way."

The night also produced additional fun and excitement as the "11th MAN" for the evening was Dr. Joe Czerkawski, a local doctor who was sponsored by Therapy Works of Jacksonville, Inc (www.therapyworksinc.com), the First Coast's premier center for the treatment of acute and chronic muscle pain and injuries. "The Doctor" entered the game in the fourth quarter and instantly became a fan favorite as he played hard with tough defense (committing two fouls) as well as getting open for a jumper that just missed. The JAM's 11th MAN promotions take advantage of an ABA Rule that allows the home team to have one non-roster player each game! The JAM has maximized the use of this unique and fun league feature with the 11th MANTM Celebrity Fan where each game, a "celebrity" fan selected by a sponsor or team management for that game, is invited to be the 11th Man, suits up with the team and joins the JAM for an evening they'll never forget!
