Jam Fall to Stampede in Season Opener

BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam fell to the Idaho Stampede, 121-113, in Bakersfield's season opener Friday night at the CenturyLink Arena. Eight players scored in double digits for the Jam, led by Mac Koshwal who scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

After finishing the first quarter all tied at 29, Bakersfield jumped to an early 15 point lead in the second. However, their 15 point lead vanished quickly as Idaho fought back and the Jam went into the half up just one point (57-56). Down by three points (91-88) entering the fourth quarter, Bakersfield struggled in the early minutes of the final period which caused them to fall behind by 13 points. The Jam fought back late in the game but their late run fell short.

James Nunnally and Markeith Cummings finished with 14 points apiece. Akeem Scott had 13 points and six assists off the bench, while Billy Baptist posted 12 points and five rebounds. Doug Thomas scored 11 points, Brian Butch had 10 points and nine rebounds, and Jared Cunningham, on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks, contributed 10 points.

Idaho was led by Pierre Jackson (29 points, 5 rebounds) and Richard Howell (21 points, 12 rebounds). Reggie Hearn tallied 15 points.

The Jam and Stampede face off again tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. PST in Idaho.
