Jam defeat Imperials Impressively 128-109

The Jacksonville Jam (15-5) for the sixth time this season defeated the Palm Beach Imperials (6-11) 128-109 in front of a loud crowd on Friday night on their homecourt at UNF Arena!

The Jam were dominate in the first quarter as they raced out to a 12-4 lead. Guard, Trey Moore had 6 of the Jam's first 12 points as the Jam controlled the game from the opening tip-off. The Jam led 34-22 at the end of the first quarter of play.

In the second quarter the Jam's depth started to takes its toll on the visitors from Palm Beach as Anthony Lumpkin, Donald Harris, and newcomer, Nick Wallery were all heard from in the Jam's most dominate quarter of the season. Jacksonville led by as many as 30 points in the second quarter and went in up at half-time 71-43.

In the third quarter, the Imperials made a couple of runs at the Jam and cut the Jam lead to 16 points twice. But Jam power forward, DeRon Rutledge scored 10 points in the quarter and the Jam maintained a 20 point lead heading in the fourth period of play.

The fourth quarter saw Palm Beach hustle, scrap, and shoot with passion and desire, but the Jam maintained control of the game as Jam guards, Jeremy File, Lumpkin, Harris, Moore and another newcomer to the Jam roster, Matt Luedtke controlled the tempo and took advantage of the Palm Beach overplaying full court defense. Palm Beach cut the Jam lead to 13 points with just over three minutes to play, but that was as close as the Imperials would get as the Jam went on a 6-0 run late to push the lead back to 19 points with just under a minute to play. Jacksonville held on to win by that final margin as the Jam earned their 15th victory on the season thus far.

Jacksonville was led in scoring by Lumpkin's 24 points on the night. Lumpkin also dished out 7 assist for the game. Rutledge scored 23 points and pulled down 9 rebounds for the game. Moore, Harris, and Wallery scored 20, 17, and 10 points respectively. Myron Anthony had his best game in a Jam uniform with his first double/double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Palm Beach was led in scoring again by Bobby St. Preux 32 points. Carl Jenkins also chipped 24 points for the game.

The Jam head to South Florida for another encounter with their arch rival, the Miami Tropics (13-4) on Monday night at Southeastern Nova University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm. The Jam will stay in South Florida through Wednesday as they'll travel to Palm Beach to face the Imperials again on Wednesday night at Florida Atlantic University. Tip-off is also scheduled for 7:30pm. The Jam's next home game will be next Friday night, January 19th at their homecourt at UNF Arena. Tip-off for all Jam home games is at 7:05pm. GO JAM!!!

JAM NOTES:

* Jam Center, Myron Anthony had a double/double on Friday night in just 15 minutes of play.

* The Jam have six players (Trey Moore, Jerry Williams, DeRon Rutledge, Donald Harris, Anthony Lumpkin and TheAnthony Haymon) averaging double figures in scoring. for the season.

* DeRon Rutledge and TheAnthony Haymon are two of the top rebounders in the ABA for the season.

* Jam newcomers, Matt Luedtke and Nick Wallery were twenty point scorers for their past teams in the ABA. Luedtke averaged 25.4 ppg last season for the ABA's, San Jose Skyrockets and Wallery was averaging 21.1 ppg this season for Palm Beach before the Jam acquired him as a free-agent pick-up.

* The Jam also signed free-agent player and former University of North Florida standout, David Ashwell (6'9-250-Center). Ashwell had been playing in Portugal early this season, but returned home over the holidays and decided he wanted to continue his first season as a professional in the USA.

* The Jacksonville Jam were ranked #6 in the ABA's Power Ranking this week. The Arkansas Aeros are the #1 ranked team in the ABA and have been for the past four consecutive weeks.
