Jam Acquire Tyrelle Blair

December 4, 2009 - NBA G League (G League)
Bakersfield Jam News Release

(Bakersfield, CA) - After he left the Jam to deal with a personal matter, Bakersfield native Robert Swift has been replaced on the roster by 6'11", 242-lb. center Tyrelle Blair.

"We are lucky to have been able to acquire Tyrelle so quickly," Bakersfield co-owner David Higdon said. "With Robert's departure we lost our biggest physical presence, and Tyrelle is a guy who can help fill that hole."

Blair played last season in Ukraine for MBC Mykolaiv, averaging 5.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 21.5 minutes per game over a 24-game span. He spent the previous two seasons at Boston College, where he averaged 5.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game as a senior in 2007-08. Prior to that, Blair played at Loyola-Chicago from 2003-05.

"We hope that Tyrelle can help replace some of the defense and rebounding that we will lose with Robert's departure," said Jam coach Will Voigt. "He is long and athletic, and if he can play with a lot of energy he will have a big impact on our team."

After joining the team just before tipoff, Blair played in his first game as a member of the Jam against the Utah Flash on Thursday, Dec. 3. He served as a defensive presence in the paint for much of the game, contributed four points on 2-of-3 shooting and led Bakersfield with eight rebounds in the 112-92 loss.
