High Desert Mavericks News Release

Gabe Jacobo hit three homers to lead an offensive onslaught for the Quakes, as Rancho Cucamonga held of a late Mavericks rally to win 15-12 Thursday night at Mavericks Stadium.

Jacobo homered in the third, fourth, and eight innings, headlining a 15-run, 16-hit night for the Quakes. The first baseman nearly doubled his home run total for the year, as he had hit just four in his first 56 games.

The Mavs took an early 1-0 lead on a Johermyn Chavez solo homer. The Quakes took the lead in the third, scoring four times. Jacobo's two-run homer capped the rally.

In the bottom of the inning, the Mavs scored a couple of times to pull within one, courtesy of RBI's by Rich Poythress and Jake Shaffer.

The Quakes blew the game open, posting seven runs in the fourth. Darwin Perez knocked a two-run single to open the scoring. Alexi Amarista hit a three-run homer, and Jacobo homered on the next pitch to make it 11-3.

Shaffer collected his second RBI in the fifth, getting the Mavs within seven. The Quakes scored twice in the seventh, but Shaver Hansen connected on his first career home run in the bottom of the inning, putting the score at 13-5.

Rancho Cucamonga scored twice more in the eighth, including Jacobo's third and final homer.

The Mavs plated seven in home half of the eighth, all with two outs. Hansen and Kyle Seager each drew bases loaded walks, and Juan Diaz followed with an RBI single.

The Quakes brought in Christian Scholl to face Dennis Raben, but Raben pulverized one out to right for a grand slam to pull the Mavs within three.

However, the Mavs wouldn't have another man reach base, as the last four hitters were retired. Eddie McKiernan pitched a perfect ninth for his 11th save.

Mavericks pitcher Andrew Carraway saw his recent roll come to a big halt. Carraway (4-3) was touched for 11 runs--eight earned--and eight hits over four innings. He had allowed eight earned runs total over his last six starts.

Quakes starter Orangel Arenas didn't pitch great, but he got a ton of run support an earned his first win with the Quakes. Arenas (1-0) allowed four runs and nine hits over five innings.

After dropping three of four at home, the Mavs hit the road for the final time in the first half when they travel to Visalia. Friday's game will start at 7 p.m. with live coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on the High Desert's TALK 960 AM and www.talk960.com.
