Visalia Overwhelms JetHawks In Series Finale

June 11, 2010 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release

Visalia scored eight runs in the first two innings and never looked back as the Rawhide defeated the JetHawks 18-4 at Clear Channel Stadium Thursday. Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and four runs scored and the Rawhide clinched a series victory by taking three out of four games from the JetHawks.

The Rawhide scored a pair of runs in the opening frame of JetHawks starter Kyle Greenwalt. A fielding error by Lancaster's Albert Cartwright with the bases loaded allowed two runs to score, which gave Visalia a 2-0 edge.

Visalia tacked on six more runs on five hits in the top of the second. Goldschmidt ripped a two-run double and Ryan Wheeler and Kyle Greene each had RBI singles in the frame, allowing the Rawhide to extend their lead to 8-0.

Lee Cruz smacked a solo home run - his first since joining the JetHawks on June 8 - off Rawhide starter Daniel Taylor in the bottom of the second to reduce the deficit to 8-1.

But the Rawhide answered with a run in the top of the third off Greenwalt and six runs off Lancaster reliever Mike Schurz in the top of the fifth to break the game open.

Lancaster struck for three runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to an RBI triple from Jay Austin followed by RBI singles from Cartwright and Brandon Barnes. But by that point, the contest was no longer in doubt.

Taylor (1-3) allowed seven hits and four earned runs in seven innings of work to pick up his first win of the season. Greenwalt (1-5) took the loss for Lancaster. With the win, Visalia improved to 30-31. The loss dropped Lancaster to 18-42.

The JetHawks will take on Lake Elsinore in the opener of a three-game weekend series at Clear Channel Stadium Friday. Lake Elsinore is expected to start right-hander Jorge Reyes (6-4, 5.05 ERA). Lancaster will counter with right-hander Ross Seaton (2-7, 5.43 ERA). First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. Tune in for all the live action beginning with the JetHawks Pre-Game Show at 6:45 p.m. on www.jethawks.com/csn and News Talk 1380-AM.
