Lincoln Stars News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - Rookie Stars goalie Jacob Mucitelli has confirmed his decision to commit to Clarkson University this week. The 18-year old will first take the ice for the Golden Knights in the 2020-21 season.
"It definitely did," said Mucitelli, a Deerfield, NY native, on whether the proximity of his hometown played any role in his decision. "I liked the school a lot. Coming from Lake Placid where I went to prep school at Northwood, it was a small community and Clarkson is similar. They have about 4,000 students so it's tight-knit. I like that a lot."
Mucitelli was selected by the Stars with the 255th pick in the 2018 USHL Entry Draft. The netminder broke onto the scene in 2015-16 when he recorded a 1.73 GAA and a .922 save percentage in 17 games with the Syracuse Stars in the USPHL 16U. He followed up his time in Syracuse with a workhorse career at Northwood, registering a save percentage just under .920 in 42 games split between prep and 18U, including a GAA of 1.01 in three playoff games at the latter level of competition. His consistency earned him a place the USA Select-17 Development Camp this past season.
"On the ice and off the ice I bring positive energy; I can't stop smiling," said a laughing Mucitelli. "I compete, I put in hard work, and I feel I'm just a good guy to be around."
Mucitelli becomes the fourth Stars player to commit to a NCAA Division I program in the lead up to the 2018-19 season, joining defenseman Logan Britt (Quinnipiac), forward Josh Lopina (UMass Amherst), and recently acquired forward Randy Hernandez (Penn State). Last year, the Stars concluded the season with 20 players committed to a collegiate program. With school on the not-too-distant horizon, Mucitelli is focused on honing his skills to make himself the best player possible.
'We're just going to focus on developing my game this year," he said. "I want to be prepared to play at that next level at Clarkson."
The Stars open the 2018-19 home schedule on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7:05 p.m. against the Omaha Lancers.
