Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Chicago Steel forward Robert Mastrosimone was listed among the United States Hockey League's best skaters in the latest rankings from NHL Central Scouting. Mastrosimone was listed as a "B" skater, projecting him as a second or third round prospect for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

NHL Central Scouting is a scouting service for all NHL member clubs that has provided scouting since the 1970s. The organization, as well as individual scouts from every NHL team, attended the USHL Fall Classic this past weekend.

"Robert is a competitive, skilled forward who is only scratching the surface of what he can become as a player," said General Manager Ryan Hardy. "Being named to NHL Central Scouting's preliminary list is nice recognition, but Robert has far loftier goals which he is working towards every day. Our staff feels privileged to work with him and confident that Steel fans will see a few more names from this year's team garner 2019 NHL Draft attention as the season progresses."

Fifty-four total USHL players were ranked in the NHL Central Scouting list and Mastrosimone was among nine listed as a "B." Mastrosimone finished fifth on the team in scoring last season with 45 points (16-29-45). His 45 points was third among USHL rookies.

In the season opener at the USHL Fall Classic on Thursday, September 27, Mastrosimone potted a pair of shorthanded goals. It was just the second time in team history that a player scored multiple times while shorthanded.

A pair of Steel affiliates were also included in the rankings including Jackson LaCombe and Jonathan Williams. Both were listed as a "C" ranking, projecting them as fourth-to-sixth round prospects for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

LaCombe, a forward, currently plays for Shattuck St. Mary's and is committed to University of Minnesota. Williams, a goaltender, currently plays for Springfield in the North American Hockey League and is committed to Michigan State University. As affiliates, they could join the Steel this season but are projected to join the team next season.

The Steel had four players selected at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, bringing the team total to 46 players taken in the NHL Draft dating back to 2000. The Steel's four was part of a USHL-record 57 players drafted as the league's success rate at the Draft continues to grow.

The home opener is Friday, Oct. 5 presented by McCue Chevy and the first 500 fans will receive Touch Screen Gloves when the Steel host Cedar Rapids.
