JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - This season, Minor League Baseball (MiLB) named DeVry University as the "Official Education and Career Development Partner of Minor League Baseball." This summer, MiLB and DeVry University are recognizing outstanding undergraduate and graduate students from the university who demonstrate citizenship, personal and academic leadership, and dedication to their fields of study as the "Student of the Month."
Silvia Leoncriollo from the DeVry University campus in Jacksonville, Florida, is one of 25 students nationwide to receive this honor. Leoncriollo will be honored Sunday, Aug. 2, at the game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
Leoncriollo is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in justice administration from the university's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Leoncriollo is dedicated to her community by volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America. She is the Den Leader of Pack 5, which involves teaching outdoor skills to the scouts and participating in community service projects. Most recently, her pack helped clean St. Augustine beaches by removing debris and trash. As part of Scout Troop 5, Leoncriollo had her scouts volunteer in several community service events that supported Duval County.
"We are honored to help DeVry University celebrate some of its best and brightest students," said Chris Peters, General Manager of the Jacksonville Suns. "As a community partner, we welcome the opportunity to provide Silvia with a special ballpark experience and recognize her for her accomplishments."
