Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The San Jose Giants won their fifth consecutive game over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, as they came away with a 3-2 win on Saturday night at LoanMart Field and an 8.5 game lead in the playoff race.
A two-run home run off the bat of Luis Toribio was the difference in the game, as his seventh-inning blast gave the Giants a 3-2 lead.
The Quakes only mustered three hits, but none over the final six innings. In the ninth, Rancho benefitted from a walk and a hit batter, but Luke McKenzie struck out and Edwin Mateo grounded back to Jesus Tona, who earned his second save of the year with a scoreless ninth.
Rancho got some help from starting pitcher Andre Jackson, who made his major league debut on Monday for the Dodgers, but was optioned to Rancho Cucamonga on Friday. Jackson was terrific on Saturday, working out of trouble a few times to keep the Giants off the board over the first five innings.
In the sixth, Jackson gave up a solo home run to Jimmy Glowenke, as that made it a 2-1 game.
Rancho's lone offense came in the third against Kyle Harrison, as Jose Ramos cracked a two-run double to give the Quakes a 2-0 lead.
San Jose reliever Randy Rodriguez (3-3) was perfect in relief of Harrison, as he fired four scoreless and didn't allow a base-runner.
The Quakes (51-43) will look to avoid a seventh straight loss as well as a six-game sweep. Rancho will send Jimmy Lewis (0-2) to the mound, as he'll be opposed by San Jose's Prelander Berroa (5-4). Game time on Sunday will be 5:00pm. Kids will Run the Bases after Sunday's game, thanks to Smile Generation. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com.
