JackHammers Score Extra Inning Victory Over Bandits

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers scored an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth to upend the Chicago Bandits 1-0 in an exhibition between the two teams Monday night at Silver Cross Field. Chicago outhit Joliet 5-2, but couldn't muster a run against the JackHammers.

Josh Flores scored the winning run in the eighth on only one pitch. A runner is placed at second base in extra frames and Flores stole third and scored the winning run on a throwing error to break up the scoreless affair.

Jennie Finch pitched the first four innings for the Bandits, striking out 11 hitters. Jonathan Wyatt led off the game with a single, the only hit surrendered by Finch. The right-hander then retired the final 12 batters she faced, whiffing ten in a row.

The Bandits loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the seventh. Angela Findlay reached on a error with Vicky Galindo and Caitlin Lever each picking up singles. The JackHammers struck out the next three Bandits to preserve the scoreless contest.

Billy Petrick collected the other JackHammer hit, a single in the seventh off Kristina Thorson. The Bandit hurler went the final three innings, striking out three and allowing the unearned run.

The JackHammers return to Northern League play tomorrow night in Rockford. First pitch in the doubleheader is slated for 6:05 p.m. at Road Ranger Stadium.
