Schaumburg Flyers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Lake County Fielders (30-43) made a ninth inning comeback, but fell just short as the Flyers (29-44) notched a 4-3 win at Alexian Field Monday night. The game ended with the potential tying run on third base.

The Fielders battled back to plate a run in the ninth on a Jeff Dunbar infield single, but Brian McCullough induced Anthony Esquer and Guillermo Martinez to ground out to notch his third save of the season.

Schaumburg starter Dustin Glant (7-4) shut down Lake County the entire night. The righty was charged with just three runs on eight hits in eight innings of work with four strikeouts and a walk.

The Flyers got on the board first with a Tommy Fitzgerald single and then again in the fourth when Richard Mercardo doubled in Ron Bourquin.

Schaumburg didn't stop scoring and pushed its lead even further with a Mario Delgado sacrifice fly in the fifth. Mercado hammered his sixth home run of the season over the left center field fence in the sixth to push the Flyers advantage to four. Mercado finished the night 4-4 with two RBI and a run scored, his first four hit game this year.

Lake County scored three unanswered in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, but couldn't complete the comeback.

Alec Lewis was tagged with the loss in just his second professional start. The righty gave up three runs on nine hits over 4.1 frames.

The Flyers continue their four game set with the Fielders at Alexian Field Tuesday evening. It's Two for Tuesday, which means Miller and Pepsi products are available for just $2. Aaron Guinn will take the hill for Schaumburg opposite Lake County's Zach Ward.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the Fielders. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 6:50 PM with the game to follow.
