Jackals Win Saturday, Play Tonight

Elmira Jackals News Release


North Charleston, SC- The Elmira Jackals entered the North Charleston Coliseum with a lunch packed and their hard hats ready for a full night of work. The Jackals battled for a full 60 minutes and picked up a 3-2 win in front of a crowd of 4,206.

The Jackals opened the scoring at the 9:13 mark of the first period when Pierre-Luc Faubert put home a Joe Grimaldi feed to make it 1-0. The Stingrays fired back with two goals, the first at the 14:45 mark. Keith Johnson netted his sixth of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Johnson netted his seventh of the season to take the 2-1 lead two minutes later at the 16:45 mark. The first period came to a close with the Jackals trailing 2-1 on the scoreboard and 13-11 in the shot category.

In the second period the dogs were unleashed. Benoit Doucet punched home his fifth goal of the season to tie the game at deuces. Kaleb Betts and Paul McIllveen would get the assists. McIlveen got a goal of his own at the 14:58 mark. Brandon Roach and Craig Switzer set up the former Stingray for what would prove to be the game winner.

The third period was dominated by Jackals goaltender David Shantz. The newcomer turned aside 13 third period shots on his way to his first win as a Jackal, a 35 save performance. With the win the Jackals improve to 13-12-0-3 for 27 points. The Stingrays fall to 15-7-1-1.

NEXT UP: The Jackals southern swing comes to a close tonight when they travel back to Gwinnett to match up with the Gladiators at 4:05 p.m. The Jackals will return home on the 26th of December when the host the Johnstown Chiefs at 7:35 p.m. at First Arena.
