Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals (30-19-2-2) went 2-2-0-0 last week, starting off with victories on Tuesday and Thursday against the Wheeling Nailers and Cincinnati Cyclones before falling to the Nailers and the Trenton Titans on Friday and Saturday. Elmira kicked off a busy five-game week yesterday with a 4-3 come-from-behind shootout win over the Reading Royals, giving the Jackals a one-point lead in the Atlantic Division race.
WEEK IN REVIEW
Tuesday, February 14
Elmira 3, Wheeling 2 (OT)
First Arena
Dustin Gazley recorded the latter of his two goals on the evening 2:45 into overtime, as the Jackals held off the Nailers at First Arena, 3-2. Elmira appeared to be on its way to a regulation win after Josh Godfrey put the Jackals in front for the first time with a power-play goal in the third period. Wheeling's Denver Manderson pushed the game into overtime, however, tying the contest with just seven seconds to go. The victory was Elmira's fourth in sudden-death overtime in 2011-2012. Timo Pielmeier stopped 28 of 30 shots for his 10th win of the season.
Thursday, February 16
Elmira 3, Cincinnati 1
U.S. Bank Arena
Nick Schaus gave the Jackals their first and only lead of the night, breaking a 1-1 tie with the go-ahead goal with just 2:38 remaining in the third as Elmira prevailed over the Cincinnati Cyclones, 3-1, at U.S. Bank Arena. Artem Demkov scored in the first period while Dustin Gazley added a late empty-net goal. Brian Stewart made 24 saves in the win, including 22 consecutively to close out the game. The win put Elmira in front of Wheeling by one point for the Atlantic's top spot.
Friday, February 17
Wheeling 4, Elmira 2
War Memorial Arena (Johnstown, Pa.)
Wheeling grabbed the division's first-place position back from Elmira, scoring twice early in the second period to establish a two-goal lead and pulling away from the Jackals in the third for a 4-2 win at War Memorial Arena. Artem Demkov recorded his 14th goal of the season while Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel posted his first-ever ECHL goal.
Saturday, February 18
Trenton 8, Elmira 1
First Arena
The Jackals returned home to First Arena and started off with a bang, as Corey Cowick scored just 53 seconds into the first period to give Elmira a 1-0 lead. The Titans would stun the Jackals, however, scoring eight unanswered goals to close out the contest and earn an 8-1 win. The game marked the first time Elmira allowed eight goals on home ice since joining the ECHL. The seven-goal loss was the Jackals' biggest at First Arena in ECHL play.

NEVER COUNT THEM OUT
On Monday, the Jackals earned their 19th comeback victory of the season, trailing by two goals late before rallying to win in a shootout over the Royals. The win was the sixth this season for Elmira in which it trailed by two goals during the game and was the Jackals' league-leading eighth in which they were behind after two periods. Elmira has overcome nine two-goal deficits this season, earning points in seven of those contests.
GAZLEY, DEMKOV REACH NEW HEIGHTS
Dustin Gazley and Artem Demkov extended their career-best point streaks to 10 and eight games respectively with third-period points on Monday. Gazley's streak dates back to Feb. 3 and is the longest by any Jackal this season. The Novi, Mich. native has six goals and eight assists for 14 points during this stretch. Demkov has posted points in each game since Feb. 10 and has three goals and five assists for eight points during his eight-game run.
JACKALS APPROACH 2010-2011 WIN MARK
The Jackals are now two victories shy of their entire 2010-2011 total, earning their 30th win of the season on Monday. The Jackals' record in ECHL competition for most wins in a season is 41, set in their first season in the league of 2007-2008. Elmira would need to win 12 of its final 19 contests to break that mark.
