New Jersey Jackals News Release
The Jackals fell a run shy of their season-high, topping the Newark Bears 16-4 on what turned out to be a calm, cool Tuesday night in Newark.
For the second straight game, New Jersey found themselves up big early. In the fifth inning, Carlos Guzman's fifth home run of the year put the Jackals up 6-0, extended his hitting streak to ten games, and knocked out Newark starter Pedro Rivera. The Can-Am's ERA leader coming into today drops to 1-4.
Jackals starter Jon Kibler allowed four runs on five hits, striking out five in as many five innings. He worked around five walks, earning his fourth win of the season, now 4-1. Dustin Birosak came on in relief and threw three hitless innings of scoreless ball.
Leading 9-4 into the eighth, the Jackals sent 11 to the plate, tying their season-high with seven runs in an inning. Angel Berroa's bases-loaded, bases-clearing double topped off the scoring.
The win pushes the Jackals to 19-11. Paired with Quebec's 10-3 loss to Worcester, the Jackals sit a half-game back of the Capitales, but tied in the loss column.
Tomorrow, the Jackals send Isaac Pavlik to the mound. The Jackals veteran is coming off a record breaking performance in which he surpassed former Jackals pitcher Joel Bennett with his 633rd strikeout, the most in Jackals history. His fourth win of the season tomorrow would be the 59th of his career. It would tie him with the aforementioned Bennett for the the most wins in franchise history.
First pitch is 11:05, with the pregame starting 10 minutes prior. Corey Scheiner and Max Herman have call.
The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
