Salotti's 4 RBI Power Tornadoes Past Quebec 10-3

June 19, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

The first five batters reached base against Guillaume Leduc, and three of them scored as the Worcester Tornadoes pummeled Les Quebec Capitales 103 at Le Stade Municipal on Tuesday night.

Nick Salotti had two extra-base hits and four runs batted in for the Tornadoes, while every member of the starting lineup scored once except Chris Torres.

Kevin Cooper earned the victory to improve to (2-3) with seven effective innings. He struck out two batters, walked four and allowed nine hits (plus three runs, all earned). He induced 11 groundball outs, and had double plays in three straight innings (fourth, fifth and sixth).

Kyle Regnault and Matt McDonald each added scoreless innings for the Tornadoes, with Regnault recording the only 1-2-3 inning of the night for the pitching staff in the eighth.

Alex Nunez, Brandon Pinckney and Jerod Edmondson all singled to start the game, with Edmondson's base knock knocking the lead-off batter in. Pinckney came in to score on an Alex Trezza single (after Johnny Welch walked), then Salotti knocked a Edmondson home with a 6-4-3 double play.

Worcester added another run in the second inning on a Pinckney single, plating Cameron Monger (who had walked). Pinckney tried to come home on an Edmondson double, but he was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

The Tornadoes added another pair of runs on the second two-run error Steve Brown has had against them this season. The other came in the only previous win in Quebec, a 5-3 11-inning affair, with Brown's miscue determining that contest. Pinckney made it all the way to third on the play, while Tony Patane and Nunez came in to score.

The fourth was the final inning for Leduc, who allowed six runs (four earned), striking out three batters, walking two, and giving up seven hits.

In the fifth, Welch reached on Jeff Helps' error, Trezza hit the next pitch for an infield single off of Chad Jones' foot and Salotti hit the following pitch over the left field fence to give the Tornadoes a 9-0 lead.

Quebec notched a single run in the fifth inning, when Sebastien Boucher singled Jeff Helps home. Helps ended the contest 3-for-5 with two runs scored. His other run came on another Boucher RBI hit, a two-run double in the seventh that also scored Jonathan Malo.

Worcester added its final run of the night in the ninth, on Nick Salotti's eighth double of the season, scoring Trezza all the way from first base.

The four game series is tied at a game apiece, with Phil Negus battling Bryan Rembisz in game three on Wednesday night at 7:05. Tornadoes Pre-Game Live begins at 6:50 on USTREAM.tv. You can tune in by clicking the "Listen Live" button on the Tornadoes' homepage.
