July 16, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
In Dustin Birosak's first start of the season, Jeff Lanning was 4-4 with a home run to propel the Jackals to a 10-4 win over the Worcester Tornadoes.
On a humid-turned-cool Monday evening at Hanover Insurance Park, New Jersey collected 14 hits, scoring every inning but the second and fourth.
With the score tied at one after a full frame, Worcester piggybacked Mike Samela's first Worcester home run with a Ryan Brockett RBI single to put the home team up 3-1.
In the bottom of the third, Jeff Lanning started his offensive showing with a solo home run to cut the lead to one. Bryan Sabatella completed the mini-comeback later in the inning with an RBI single to left. Sabatella finished the day 2-5.
Both teams traded runs before the Jackals went up for good with three runs in the sixth. It was again Lanning, this time with a two-RBI double on a two-strike pitch to knock home Carlos Guzman and former Worcester Tornado Nick Salotti.
In Salotti's return to Worcester for the first time since his July 11th release, he went 2-4 with an RBI. Guzman finished the day 1-5.
Birosak earns the win in his first start of the season to move to 1-1. He goes five innings and allowed four runs off eight hits.
Worcester starter Dan Sausville gets the loss and drops to 3-7. In his first start against New Jersey since his complete-game shutout June 3rd, Sausville goes six-and-a-third, allowing eight runs, six earned, off ten hits.
With the win, New Jersey improves to 31-24, six games back of Quebec. The Capitales topped the Gary SouthShore Railcats of the American Association 4-2 Monday. Worcester drops to 17-39.
Tomorrow, New Jersey sends out lefty Craig Clark. Worcester will counter with right-hander Kevin Cooper. First pitch is 7:05 with the pregame 10 minutes prior.
The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
