Can-Am League Game Recaps
July 16, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Gary SouthShore 2, Worcester 0
The Gary SouthShore RailCats broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning to take an inter-league game from the Worcester Tornadoes 2-0. Six different RailCat pitchers combined to shut out the Tornadoes and as a unit gave up just eight hits in the ball game. The Tornado staff was just as effective for most of the game as Gary SouthShore had just six hits but they came in timely spots. In the top of the eighth, 1B Mike Rohde singled up the middle with the bases loaded and brought home David Cooper. C Ryan Babineau was walked in the next at bat to add another run. Reliever Estevan Uriegas earned the win by striking out one batter and throwing just five pitches.
New Jersey 6, Rockland 5
The New Jersey Jackals put up three runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead and staved off a ferocious comeback back the Rockland Boulders to win 6-5. Jackals DH Nick Salotti started the rally with a solo home run that gave New Jersey the lead. 2B Matt Nandin, who was 2-for-4, tripled home a run two batters later and he scored on an error in the next at bat to put the Jackals up three. In the bottom of the frame, Rockland 3B Melvin Falu scored on a wild pitch and then two pitches later C Landis Wilson brought the game within one run with an RBI single. CF Chris Valencia ended the game by flying out to left field. Falu was a game-high 3-for-4 and scored twice.
