Can-Am League Game Recaps

July 16, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Rockland 13, Newark 8 (10 innings)

in their first seven offensive innings, the Boulders managed to score just one run and trailed Newark by four runs. That's when the Rockland bats caught fire, scoring seven runs in the final two scheduled innings to force a 10th. And in that extra frame, the Boulders kept on keeping on to score five and defeat the Bears, 13-8. The Boulders did all their damage without a home run. But Rockland RF Qualon Millender hit two of the Boulders' six doubles, going 4-for-6, scoring three runs and driving in another two. Batting ninth, Bears RF Eric Mcgee drove in the game's first three runs on a second-inning homer, his only hit of the game. The blast put Newark up, 3-1, and the Bears didn't rail again until the decisive 10th.

Quebec 4, Gary SouthShore 2

The Capitales' Steve Brown had just one hit against Gary SouthShore on Tuesday. The right fielder, however, did most of his damage on sacrifice flies. Brown's second sac fly - his third RBI of the game - drove in the game's final run in Quebec's 4-2 victory. Starting Capitales pitcher Bryan Rembisz threw seven innings, striking out three while allowing two runs on four hits, to earn his seventh win of the year. Three Capitales players had multiple hits, including 1B Josue Peley. Peley went 2-for-4 and drove in a run, the only run not batted in by Brown. RailCats Mike Coles hit a solo homer to open Gary SouthShore's two-run fourth inning. But then Rembisz and the Capitales bullpen took over, allowing Brown and the rest of the Quebec offense mount their comeback.

New Jersey 10, Worcester 4

Jackals C Jeff Lanning hit his fifth home run of the season to highlight his 4-for-4 performance in New Jersey's 10-4 win over Worcester. Lanning did his damage - scoring three times and driving in three - while batting ninth for the Jackals. New Jersey also got a home run from 3B Nick Giarraputo, who now has 18 blasts on the season. Trailing, 5-4, in the sixth inning, New Jersey saw Lanning plate two with a double. And the Jackals led the rest of the way. Worcester C Mike Samela went 2-for-2 and hit his first home run with the Tornadoes. He did so in just his third game with the club. But Samela's impressive night at the plate wasn't enough to lead Worcester to victory.
