New Jersey Jackals News Release

Brockton, Mass. - D'Angelo Jimenez and Bryan Sabatella each connected on two-run homers, but the New Jersey Jackals surrendered a season-high 18 runs as they fell to the Brockton Rox, 18-4, in the opener of the final series of the regular season on Friday night at Campanelli Stadium. The loss snaps the Jackals' 10-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, the Jackals still clinched the second seed in the Can-Am League playoffs by virtue of Quebec sweeping Worcester in a doubleheader.

The Rox, who had dropped eight of their last nine games entering the night, broke through early with six runs in the bottom of the first inning against New Jersey starter Michael Moore. Melvin Falu's ninth home run of the season in the second inning extended the Brockton lead to 7-0.

In the top of the third, Jimenez lifted his second home run of the season following one of Sandy Madera's three walks in the contest to get New Jersey on the board at 7-2. However, the Rox fired back with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to open up a 14-2 advantage.

Sabatella's first homer in a Jackals' uniform, a two-run blast in the fifth inning, made it a 14-4 contest.

The Rox capped the scoring in the seventh inning, plating four runs after stringing together four straight hits to open the frame against Jeff Gogal. Jackals' catcher Chris Anderson entered in relief with one out in the seventh and finished the contest with 1 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen in his third career appearance on the mound. Steve Fox also contributed a scoreless inning of relief in the losing effort.

Five Brockton starters collected multiple hits with Chris Valencia, Shawn Williams, and Dan Barbero each driving in three runs.

The Jackals and Rox continue their three-game series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. when New Jersey sends southpaw Jon Kibler (3-5, 5.64 ERA) to the mound looking for his fourth consecutive win while Brockton counters with veteran right-hander John Kelly (1-1, 2.22 ERA) at Campanelli Stadium. Cody Chrusciel has the call on the live webcast beginning 10 minutes prior to first pitch at www.jackals.com.
