
Wideman Tabbed Can-Am League August Pitcher of the Month

Little Falls, N.J. - The Can-Am League announced on Thursday that New Jersey Jackals' left-hander A.J. Wideman has been named the Rawlings Can-Am League Pitcher of the Month for August. Wideman earns the award for the third time in three seasons with the Jackals and becomes the third different New Jersey hurler to notch the league's monthly accolade in 2011.
This past August, Wideman went a perfect 6-0 with a 1.15 ERA in six starts. In 39 innings pitched, he allowed five earned runs on 26 hits with 11 walks and 21 strikeouts. The resident of Mississauga, Ontario is 7-2 on the season with an earned run average of 2.52 ERA in 60 2/3 innings pitched. He was won seven consecutive starts.
The 26-year-old Wideman was an 11th round selection of the Montreal Expos in the 2003 draft out of high school. He spent 2003 and 2004 with the Expos organization before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2005. This is Wideman's third season with the Jackals.
Wideman was previously named Can-Am League Pitcher of the Month in July and August 2009 en route to finishing that season 10-1 with a 2.51 ERA. Wideman is the only pitcher in league history to win the award multiple times. Earlier this season, New Jersey hurlers Isaac Pavlik and James Leverton were named Can-Am League Pitcher of the Month in June and July, respectively.
