Pittsfield 6, New York 2 (Game 1 - 7 innings)
For the second consecutive game, a home run from freshly minted Player of the Month Jerod Edmondson helper lead Pittsfield to victory and a guaranteed playoff spot. Edmondson hit a two-run jack in the second inning and went 2-for-4 in Pittsfield's 7-2 victory against New York. The Colonials built up a 6-0 lead before New York 1B Tom Maoloney hit a two-run shot of his own in the seventh. Starting Colonials pitcher Miguel Flores struck out 10 batters allowed only four hits in seven innings - two coming in the final frame.
Pittsfield 14, New York 2 (Game 2 - 7 innings)
The Colonials wasted no time jumping out on top in Game 2 against New York. Pittsfield scored six runs on six hits in the first inning and never looked back on the way to a 14-2 victory. Jerod Edmondson homered for the third consecutive game, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Starting Colonials pitcher T.J. Wink struck out five over five innings and allowed only two hits and a walk, lowering his season ERA to 2.56. The Federals scored a run in both the sixth and seventh, the first on a Steve Detwiler home run. The four-bagger was Detwiler's only hit of the game. Nearly matching Edmondson, Colonials LF Billy Mottram went 3-for-3 with two triples, four runs and two RBI.
Quebec 5, Worcester 4 (Game 1 - 7 innings)
The Capitales trailed 4-0 entering the fifth inning. But the club rallied, scoring three runs in the fifth and another two in the sixth to take a 5-4 victory over Worcester. It was Quebec LF Robert Wagner that gave the Capitales ther first lead, homering in the sixth and turning a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 lead. It was Wagner's only hit on the game. The Tornadoes had only six hits, and no Worcester player had more than one hit.
Quebec 5, Worcester 1 (Game 2 - 7 innings)
Leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Capitales doubled their lead with one swing of Sebastien Boucher's bat. Boucher hit a two-run homer off Worcester starting pitcher Kevin Cooper. Boucher went 1-for-2, scored twice and batted in two runs. The Tornadoes went on top, 1-0, in the top of the third, when LF Alex A. Nunez singled in Cameron Monger. It was Nunez' only hit of the evening. But nearly immediately, the Capitales stole the lead, plating three runs in the bottom of the frame. And Quebec never looked back.
Rockland 6, Newark 5
The Rockland Boulders went on top early and, despite a furious Newark comeback effort, held on to win, 6-5. For Rockland, pitcher Brett Carroll recorded the win, his first decision of the year. Casey Gaynor took the loss for Newark. Gaynor is now 5-4 on the year. Rockland's season record is now 19-24, while Newark sits at 17-26.
Brockton 18, New Jersey 4
Six different Rox batters had multiple hits Friday night, including leadoff man Chris Valencia, who fell a home run shy of the cycle. Valencia went 3-for-5, scored twice and tied for the game high in RBI with three. Brockton jumped on top 6-0 after the first inning and led by at least five for the rest of the game. Broctkon 1B Melvin Falu hit a homer, his ninth of the year and the only long ball for the Rox. And while the Jackals only plated four runs, all four came on long balls. D'Angelo Jimenez homered in the third to bring his club within five at 7-2, and Bryan Sabatella hit a two-run shot in the fifth. The Jackals wouldn't score again.
