Jackals' spirits low after loss to North Shore

New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The North Shore Spirit were determined to come away with a win, and the New Jersey Jackals, despite their efforts to keep up, dropped this one by a final score of 8-4.

The Spirit got after Jackals LHP Isaac "Pitbull" Pavlik (6-2) early on, as 1B Vic Davilla blasted a solo homerun onto the right field lawn in the top of the 1st inning, a shot that everyone knew was gone as soon as it left his bat. The early damage didn't stop there, as C Alex Trezza added to his league-leading homerun total (9) in the top of the 2nd, connecting for a 2-run moon shot to right field that traveled even further than Davilla's homer.

RHP Ryan Bicondoa (6-0) put on a clinic for the Spirit, striking out 12 Jackals over his 8 innings of work, while allowing 3 runs, though only 2 were earned.

The 2nd inning homerun by Trezza was the last hit the Spirit would record until the top of the 8th. After picking off Spirit 2B Ryan Bethel, who walked following the Trezza shot, "Pitbull" Pavlik really settled in.

But in the 8th inning, LF Garrett Weir led off with a walk, followed by back-to-back singles by CF B.J. Weed and Davilla, making the score 5-2 in favor of the Spirit with 2 men still in scoring position. Pavlik would be pulled for RHP James Mondesir, who proceeded to surrender a 3-run homerun to SS Chris Rowan, his 2nd homerun in as many games.

Pavlik went 7 innings in the loss, allowing 7 hits and 6 runs while striking out 6 and walking 4, uncharacteristic of a pitcher who had given up just 13 walks in 65.1 innings pitched and had a 4.5:1 K:BB ratio coming into tonight's game.

Jackals RF/LF Jason Tuttle scored 2 runs, and 1B "Big" Bill Peavey and DH " Mayor" John Lindsey each had 2 hits and scored a run. 3B Wilton Veras went 1-for-5 with 2 RBI, earning himself Player of the Game honors.

Tomorrow night will be a Fireworks Extravaganza at Yogi Berra Stadium, and lawn seats are still available.
