Spirit to honor Pesky and Agganis
July 21, 2006 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
North Shore Spirit News Release
The Spirit will pay homage to two local legends on Thursday night when they forever immortalize Number 6, alongside the other honored numbers at Fraser Field.
Both Johnny Pesky and Harry Agganis donned the number six during their baseball careers as they represented the city of Lynn with dignity and class on a national stage.
Born Aristotle George Agganis in Lynn, Massachusetts, on April 20, 1929, "Harry" Agganis was a budding superstar for the Red Sox, just about to embark on a professional football career when his life was tragically cut short by a pulmonary embolism at age 26.
Pesky spent five and half seasons in a Red Sox uniform beginning with his rookie season in 1942. He served in the military for the next three seasons, but returned to the Sox during the 1946 pennant-winning season. Pesky has been a Red Sox institution, assisting every year at spring training and tirelessly serving the team in whatever capacity he could.
The Spirit will pay tribute to these two Lynn icons in a pre-game ceremony on Thursday, July 27th when the Spirit take on the Quebec Capitales.
Pesky will be on hand for the tribute, along with members of the Agganis Foundation. For tickets or to bring you group to this momentous event, please contact the Spirit management office at 781-592-0007.
