Jackals Score 37 Runs in Twin Bill Drubbing of Champions
July 5, 2018 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - It was a difficult double header in New Jersey for the Ottawa Champions. They both sides of the twin bill at Yogi Berra Stadium by large scores, falling 23-8 in Game 1, and 14-1 in the second contest of the day.
The doubleheader sweep for the Jackals doesn't make the Can-Am League playoff race any easier for the Champions. After coming into the double header just two games back of the final spot occupied by New Jersey, Ottawa falls to four games back of the last playoff spot.
Game 1 didn't begin in the Champions' favour - they had to resume the May 31 contest between these two clubs in the bottom of the third inning, and already trailed 12-1 by the time the "first" pitch came out of RHP Andrew Cooper's hand.
New Jersey didn't waste any time, plating four runs in the fourth to salt the game away. Most of those runs came via a three-run blast by INF Carlos Truinfel.
They went on to take the game by 15 runs, despite a four-run seventh by the Champions.
Game 2 saw much of the same, with the Jackals chasing Ottawa starter RHP Steve Borkowski out of the game early on. They plated seven earned runs off Borkowski, who lasted three innings in his ninth start of the 2018 campaign.
The Jackals chased the Champions starter by plating five in the inning.
Ottawa and New Jersey will resume their series Friday night.
When the Champions return home, the first-place Sussex County Miners will be waiting for them Monday night. Tickets for every Champions game can be purchased at www.ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office, or by calling the Champs at 613-745-2255 (BALL).
