New Jersey Jackals News Release
In the continuation of the May 31 matchup between the New Jersey Jackals and the Ottawa Champions, the home team persisted for a high-scoring 23-8 victory.
The ballgame officially started five weeks ago, when New Jersey jumped out to a 12-1 lead before fog caused the matchup to be suspended. Today's action resumed in the bottom of the third inning, with Danny Canela promptly singling to reignite play.
Alberto Rodriguez replaced Mariel Checo on the hill for the Jackals, while Andrew Cooper retook the mound for the Champions. Carlos Triunfel smacked a three run homer in the bottom of the fourth to expand the lead to 13 runs, and Dean Green made it back to back jacks immediately after.
Two more runs would cross in the next inning, as John Ruettiger's double plated his teammates.
Evan Rutckyj came into replace Cooper in the bottom of the 6th, and the lefty immediately gave up a home run to Canela.
Ottawa showed some life in the top of the 7th via Sebastien Boucher's two run double, who would score a run himself alongside Chase Harris thanks to some shoddy defensive work by the Jackals. Daniel Bick's triple in the 8th allowed Tyler Nordgren to score and continue to narrow the gap.
Alex Vargas assumed pitching duties in the bottom of the 8th inning, and he did not fare any better than any of his teammates. David Harris's two run homer set the score at 22-8, and Nolan Meadows's solo shot tied the Can-Am League record for most runs scored in a game.
Nate Gercken closed the game on the mound for Brooks Carey's team to improve New Jersey to a 23-21 record. These teams square off again at 7:05 p.m. to open a three game series.
