New York Boulders News Release

(Ramapo, N.Y.) - Nick Salotti's ninth inning home run broke a 3-3 tie and the New Jersey Jackals held on for a 6-5 win over the Rockland Boulders on a rain soaked Sunday evening at Provident Bank Park.

Salotti's blast came with two out and nobody on base, and the Jackals added two more runs in the frame off Boulders closer Adrian Martin (4-3), the big blows a Matt Nandin RBI triple and a Ryan Mollica defensive error that allowed Nandin to score.

Rockland battled back in the bottom half of the ninth, scoring two runs of their own and bringing the winning run to the plate. Landis Wilson's RBI single made the game 6-5, but Chris Valencia flew out to end the game.

The Boulder loss wasted another good outing by Jon Velasquez, who gave up three earned runs over eight innings, shutting out New Jersey over his final seven innings of work.

The Jackals jumped out to an early lead as Chris Curran led the game off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Curran would be driven in on a Francisco Caraballo single that put the first run on the board. Nick Giarraputo then extended the Jackals lead to 3-0 with a two-run dinger over the left field wall. The home run was Giarraputo's 17th of the year and he now trails Keith Brachold by two homers for the league lead in long balls.

But the Boulders would not go down without a fight. After Valencia scored on a Brachold ground out in the bottom of the first, Ryan Scoma led off the second with a double, then scored on a Melvin Falu single to make it 3-2.

It remained that score until the bottom of the seventh when the Boulders tied it on an RBI single by Cole Kraft.

With the win, New Jersey (30-24) leads Rockland (27-27) by three games for second-place in the Can-Am League standings.
